Charitable Organization Endowment

Charitable organization endowments are permanent funds which are invested in the Oklahoma City Community Foundation’s general pool and which distribute annual earnings back to the organization for its operations or other purposes designated by donors when the fund was established.

The minimum amount required to establish an charitable organization endowment is $20,000 but organizations can accumulate the amount over an agreed upon period of time. Annual distributions to organizations are based on 5 percent of the average market value for the previous eight quarters. Additional investment performance is added to the fund balance to ensure that the fund’s income stream keeps up with inflation.

The Oklahoma City Community Foundation has the largest charitable organization endowment program of any community foundation in the United States. Nearly 300 organizations benefit from these funds. For a listing of participating organizations, go to Charities in Central Oklahoma.

Using the Oklahoma City Community Foundation for endowment management has many advantages for a charitable organization:

• Professional investment services and excellent investment returns.
• All administrative and accounting services, donor acknowledgment and recognition.
• Assistance with fund development, planned giving, and enhanced visibility.
• Opportunity to participate in Capacity Building Program and Grants.

For donors who wish to contribute to endowments for specific charitable organization, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation offers the assurance that their contribution will be professionally managed and that it will be protected so that it always provides income for the organization’s needs. Through the Oklahoma City Community Foundation’s publications and annual reports, donors can be recognized for gifts to charitable organization endowments.
