OKLAHOMA CITY, OK -- Oklahoma City, OK – At its May meeting, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation Board of Trustees approved $104,644 in community program grants to 16 metropolitan area charitable organizations.
“We are fortunate to have loyal donors who consistently support our charitable organizations,” says Nancy B. Anthony, executive director. “Their generosity enables us to provide growth and assistance to numerous organizations in the community.”
The Oklahoma City Community Foundation is a nonprofit public charity established in 1969 with the mission of helping donors meet the charitable needs of the community through the development and administration of endowment funds for charitable organizations, scholarships and other charitable causes. The Oklahoma City Community Foundation accepts applications from charitable organizations for grants in five different focus areas:
• The Fund for Oklahoma City helps the community meet changing needs. Grants target strong and established charitable organizations expanding services and programs. Grant requests are accepted from any 501(c)(3) organization in the Oklahoma City area. Next Grant Deadline: July 1, 2008
• The Margaret Annis Boys Trust/Parks & Public Spaces Initiative is a fund established by the estate of a lifelong Oklahoma resident who had a deep appreciation for Oklahoma native trees and flowers. Grants from this fund support beautification projects for public parks, medians and other public lands in Oklahoma County. Next Grant Deadline: July 1, 2008
• The Capacity Building Program awards grants to assist charitable organizations implement good planning and quality management. Grants are awarded to charitable organizations with permanent endowment funds at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation for programs, services or equipment designed to increase the organizations’ management efficiency and their capacity to provide service. Next Grant Deadline: July 1, 2008
• Literacy is for Everyone (LIFE) seeks to assist organizations in providing opportunities for all children and adults to read, write and speak English at a functional level. This program provides support for new or existing literacy programs for training, materials, awareness building and administrative support to improve the quality and the capacity of their existing programs to serve more learners. Next Grant Deadline: July 1, 2008
• Get Moving OKC! seeks to raise awareness in the community of the benefits of exercise to good health and the integration of simple physical activity, such as walking, into the daily routines of children and adults in central Oklahoma. Grant support will be provided to charitable organizations, schools, churches and park groups to develop new programs or significantly expand current programs related to promoting physical activity and wellness. Next Grant Deadline: July 1, 2008
Grants are also awarded through Field of Interest funds, which are designed for donors who would like their contributions to benefit a particular area of interest, type of organization, community issue or geographic area.

Below is a summary of the grants awarded to the 18 organizations in May. Grants are listed under the corresponding focus area:
Field of Interest/Access to Health Care (total of $15,000 awarded)
• St. Anthony Hospital Foundation -- $15,000 to fund tutors for the 10-week summer school program for youth in the hospital’s residential mental health treatment program.
Margaret Annis Boys Trust/Parks & Public Spaces Initiative (total of $23,000 awarded):
• Lansbrook Neighborhood Association -- $5,000 for landscaping of the north MacArthur Street frontage.
• Briarcreek Neighborhood Association -- $8,000 for the planting of trees along north Rockwell Avenue.
• Westmoore High School -- $10,000 for a comprehensive campus landscape and improvement project.
Capacity Building (total of $38,144 awarded):
• Overholser Mansion -- $4,500 to support the hiring of an education intern to develop education programming.
• Individual Artists Association -- $5,000 to assist in hiring a staff person to manage daily operations of the gallery and organize an expanded programming schedule.
• Travelers Aid Society -- $2,550 to hire a professional to lead a board development session.
• Oklahoma Children’s Theatre -- $3,000 to develop a three-year strategic plan.
• Community Health Center/Mary Mahoney Memorial Health Center -- $3,000 for the development of a new web site.
• National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum -- $5,000 to support an in-depth member and visitor survey to determine visitor needs and interests.
• Oklahoma Physical Therapy Foundation -- $1,800 to support improvements to the web site.
• Oklahoma Museums Association -- $3,294 for development of a membership marketing plan and campaign.
• Association of Fundraising Professionals -- $5,000 to support the association’s annual Day of Philanthropy Conference.
Get Moving OKC!; (total of $13,500 awarded)
• Langston University Extension -- $6,000 to support a jump rope physical fitness initiative for at-risk youth in northeast Oklahoma City.
• Metropolitan Better Living Center -- $5,000 for the purchase of exercise equipment.
• Greater Bethel Baptist Church -- $2,500 to support a fitness program for adults.
