OKLAHOMA CITY, OK -- Oklahoma City, OK At its February meeting, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation Board of Trustees approved $196,225 in community program grants to 12 metropolitan area charitable organizations.
We are fortunate to have loyal donors who consistently support our charitable organizations, says Nancy B. Anthony, Oklahoma City Community Foundation Executive Director. Their generosity enables us to provide growth and assistance to numerous organizations in the community.
The Oklahoma City Community Foundation is a nonprofit public charity established in 1969 with the mission of helping donors meet the charitable needs of the community through the development and administration of endowment funds for charitable organizations, scholarships and other charitable causes. The Oklahoma City Community Foundation accepts applications from charitable organizations for grants in five different focus areas:
The Fund for Oklahoma City helps the community meet changing needs. Grants target strong and established charitable organizations expanding services and programs. Grant requests are accepted from any 501(c)(3) organization in the Oklahoma City area. Next Grant Deadline: April 1, 2008
The Margaret Annis Boys Trust/Parks & Public Spaces Initiative is a fund established by the estate of a lifelong Oklahoma resident who had a deep appreciation for Oklahoma native trees and flowers. Grants from this fund support beautification projects for public parks, medians and other public lands in Oklahoma County. Next Grant Deadline: April 1, 2008
The Capacity Building Program awards grants to assist charitable organizations implement good planning and quality management. Grants are awarded to charitable organizations with permanent endowment funds at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation for programs, services or equipment designed to increase the organizations management efficiency and their capacity to provide service. Next Grant Deadline: April 1, 2008
Literacy is for Everyone (LIFE) seeks to assist organizations in providing opportunities for all children and adults to read, write and speak English at a functional level. This program provides support for new or existing literacy programs for training, materials, awareness building and administrative support to improve the quality and the capacity of their existing programs to serve more learners. Next Grant Deadline: April 1, 2008
Get Moving OKC! seeks to raise awareness in the community of the benefits of exercise to good health and the integration of simple physical activity, such as walking, into the daily routines of children and adults in central Oklahoma. Grant support will be provided to charitable organizations, schools, churches and park groups to develop new programs or significantly expand current programs related to promoting physical activity and wellness. Fund for Oklahoma City (total of $65,000 awarded):
Skyline Urban Ministry -- funds of up to $15,000 will support the establishment of an after school program at Epworth United Methodist Church.
Community Health Center/Mary Mahoney Memorial Health Center -- $50,000 to support the hiring of staff for a medical home clinic for the uninsured and underinsured.
Margaret Annis Boys Trust/Parks & Public Spaces Initiative (total of $96,725 awarded):
Mayfair Heights Neighborhood Association -- $8,540 to support the purchase of trees and tree gators in the park adjacent to the Mayfair Heights neighborhood.
Harvest Hill South Neighborhood Association -- $6,000 for the addition of plant materials to the neighborhood entries on Council Road and Wilshire Boulevard.
Crown Heights-Edgemere Heights Neighborhood Association -- $8,185 for planting bed improvements and a comprehensive tree and shrub planting project on Shartel Boulevard.
Friends of Lake Hefner -- $60,000 to support a three-year tree revitalization program in strategic locations around Lake Hefner.
Crestwood Neighborhood Association -- $4,000 for the purchase and installation of plant materials in a median in the Crestwood neighborhood.
Oklahoma City Beautiful -- $10,000 to support the Adopt-A-Park Program ($5,000 per year in 2008 and 2009).
Capacity Building (total of $9,500 awarded):
Oklahoma League for the Blind -- $3,000 for the hiring of a consultant to develop and facilitate a board retreat.
Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence -- $3,500 for the purchase of new software.
Easter Seals of Oklahoma -- $3,000 to support programming for a therapeutic day school for those with Autism.
Literacy is for Everyone (LIFE); (total of $25,000 awarded)
Oklahoma City Literacy Council -- $25,000 to support the hiring of a part-time staff person.
