For Immediate Release -- Apr 30, 2007
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK -- Oklahoma City, OK – Today, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation presented $116,400 in Community Foundation Scholar awards at a luncheon hosted at the Oklahoma City Gold and Country Club. Ninety-seven students representing 43 high schools in central Oklahoma were each awarded a $1,200 scholarship.
“The Community Foundation Scholars awards are a means by which the Oklahoma City Community Foundation can encourage students to be successful in their post high school educational endeavors,” says Nancy B. Anthony, Oklahoma City Community Foundation Executive Director. “We are pleased to be able to help support and encourage their dreams and aspirations.”
The Community Foundation Scholars program rewards good students who are also good citizens. Recipients are students who might not otherwise qualify for awards based solely on academic standards but have shown a desire and ability to pursue a post high school education.
This program is one of five that comprises the New Opportunities Scholarship Initiative established by the Trustees in 1998 with one simple goal in mind: Encourage more students in central Oklahoma to continue their education after high school. For more information on all the scholarship programs, visit the Scholarship Center at www.occf.org.
