Anniversary Match Challenge Nets More Than $147,000
The Lawton Community Foundation is pleased to announce that more than 200 individual donors made gifts in excess of $76,000 through the Anniversary Match Challenge. Gifts to individual endowment funds were matched dollar-for-dollar up to $5,000. The challenge yielded a total increase in funds of more than $147,000 with donor gifts and match funds combined.
In honor of the organization’s 10th anniversary in 2009, the Lawton Community Foundation offered the Anniversary Match Challenge for contributions to participating charitable organization endowment funds. Gifts made to the funds between November 1, 2008 and December 31, 2009 by individual donors were eligible for the match, providing each organization with an opportunity to increase its endowment by $10,000.
“Through this challenge we hoped to encourage the organizations to increase their endowments, while also attracting new donors,” says Gene Love, president of the Lawton Community Foundation. “We are thrilled with the overwhelming response to this challenge and I believe it is a very positive sign for our community.”
Of the 23 charitable organizations eligible to participate in the challenge, 15 received donor gifts matched by the Lawton Community Foundation and 11 reached the full matching level of $5,000. Of the 200 donors, 130 were first-time donors to the Lawton Community Foundation.
“The Lawton Community Foundation is committed to helping these charitable organizations sustain their long-term viability in the community, “ Love adds. “All of the groups who participated should be applauded for their efforts. We are especially pleased that the challenge attracted new donors who are obviously invested in the future of our community and these nonprofit organizations.”
