Types of Funds

The Lawton Community Foundation is a simple flexible alternative for donors to build permanent endowments which will benefit the Lawton area for years to come. The contributions to the Lawton Community Foundation come from a variety of sources and support a variety of charitable organizations and causes. Donors may use the Lawton Community Foundation as an alternative to a private foundation, to support the community’s greatest area of need or to support a specific charitable organization. The types of funds available through the Lawton Community Foundation include:

Charitable Organization Endowment Fund
Advised Funds
The Lawton Area Fund
Scholarship & Award Fund

Charitable Organization Endowment Fund - An endowment for the benefit of a specific nonprofit organization or charitable purpose. An endowment provides a stable, secure source of income for a specific nonprofit organization or charitable purpose. An endowment can be established with an initial contribution of $20,000. Subsequent contributions can be made at any time and in any amount.
Charitable Organization Endowment Guidelines & Policies

An Advised Fund - A permanent endowment fund that allows the donor to suggest how the fund’s earnings should be distributed. Distributions can be made to any nonprofit organization or qualified charity. This type of fund provides the donor with an extremely flexible form of giving. The donor can make a contribution and receive a tax deduction in one tax year, and may advise how the earnings from the fund should be used in the community each year thereafter. Subsequent contributions can be made at any time and in any amount.

The Lawton Area Fund - A permanent endowment fund to support the broad needs of the Lawton area. Contributions to the Lawton Area Fund are not earmarked for a specific cause or organization. Rather, gifts to this fund will benefit the broad needs of the community. As the community grows and changes, the Lawton Area Fund can respond to the emerging needs of the area. There is no minimum contribution amount for the Lawton Area Fund.

Scholarship & Award Fund - A permanent endowment used to provide educational assistance and provide awards for recognition of achievement to individuals chosen through a careful selection process. A scholarship and award fund provide an easy and efficient way for donors to help students attain higher education or other training opportunities.
