11 Lawton area high school seniors awarded $19,000 in scholarships

The Lawton Community Foundation together with the Lawton Noon Lions Club awarded $19,000 in scholarships to 11 seniors from the Lawton, Duncan, Elgin, Frederick, Cache and Altus school districts. Recipients and their families were honored at a special breakfast event Tuesday, May 11 at the McCasland Ballroom in the McMahon Centennial Complex on the Cameron University campus. Billy Taylor, Goodyear-Lawton plant manager, was the guest speaker.

Area Nonprofits Invited to Apply for Community Grants

Nonprofit organizations from Lawton and the surrounding area are invited to submit grant applications for the Lawton Community Foundation’s Community Grants Program, which supports programs and projects that will improve the quality of life and provide opportunities for citizens to improve themselves and their communities. Applications are due by June 30, 2010, and are available at www.occf.org/lawtoncommunitygrants.

Anniversary Match Challenge Nets More Than $147,000

Lawton Community Foundation Anniversary Match ChallengeThe Lawton Community Foundation is pleased to announce that more than 200 individual donors made gifts in excess of $76,000  through the Anniversary Match Challenge. Gifts to individual endowment funds were matched dollar-for-dollar up to $5,000. The challenge yielded a total increase in funds of more than $147,000 with donor gifts and match funds combined.

In honor of the organization’s 10th anniversary in 2009, the Lawton Community Foundation offered the Anniversary Match Challenge for contributions to participating charitable organization endowment funds. Gifts made to the funds between November 1, 2008 and December 31, 2009 by individual donors were eligible for the match, providing each organization with an opportunity to increase its endowment by $10,000.

The Lawton Community Foundation provided distributions of more than $59,000 for fiscal year 2009 to 23 nonprofits participating in the charitable organization endowment program. The distributions were made during the annual Charitable Organization Endowment breakfast on Tuesday, November 17 in the Shepler Center Ballroom at Cameron University.

Lawton Community Foundation

The Lawton Community Foundation was established in 1999 to support the current and future charitable interests of the Lawton community and surrounding areas.  The Lawton Community Foundation gives back to the community through community grants, a scholarship program and working with nonprofit organizations to create charitable endowments. The Lawton Community Foundation is an affiliate of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation. Under this structure, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation provides all of the administrative and investment services for the Lawton Community Foundation.
