Grant Made to Support Long-Term Recovery Efforts in Haiti

Haitian residents attend training sessions on confined mason techniques. The Oklahoma City Community Foundation has awarded nearly $12,000 from the Haiti Earthquake Recovery Fund to assist with the long-term recovery efforts in Haiti. Established by the Oklahoma City Community Foundation following the January 12th earthquake, the fund provided a convenient and easy way for local donors to make charitable gifts in response to the disaster.

Established in Guatemala in 2005, AIDG’s mission is to help people in developing countries get affordable and environmentally sound access to energy, sanitation and clean water to better their health and improve their lives

Since the earthquake, the group has worked to foster recovery efforts including building clean communal latrines, providing emergency and transitional shelters and recruiting structural engineers to assist with rebuilding infrastructure such as water and sewer facilities. In the photograph on this page, Haitian residents attend training sessions coordinated by AIDG on confined masonry techniques. "Many local donors wanted to contribute to help but were unsure of the most effective way to do so,” says Anthony. “We were pleased to be able to facilitate these gifts and direct all of the fund's balance to projects that address long-term recovery efforts in Haiti.”
