"Where Art and History Come Alive! Mission: The Paseo Artists Association seeks to preserve the Paseo, OKC's vibrant living community of artists, as a historic arts district and to enrich, educate, entertain and inspire throught the arts. Tehe Historic Paseo Arts District, built in 1929, has served as OKC'x artist community since the 1970s. Throughout its colorful past, Paseo has undergone several transformations. In the 1930's. the Elm's Apartments were the place to view the art of the avant-garde in OKC. During the 1950's, Paseo was a recreational and retail area that included the popular attractions, "Paseo Plunge," a community swimming pool. The 1960-70's brought the hippies, bohemians, artists and visionaries to the area. Currently, the Paseo is enjoying a renaissance since the 1990's. Today, a vibrant group of artists and other interested peple are transforming this community through creative thinking and arts activities. The Paseo Arts District and the Paseo Artists Association host numerous outreach programs, arts education for children and exhibition/performance opportunities. Among these are: the Paseo Arts Festival in May, the OK Artist of the Year Awards, juried exhibitions, First Friday Gallery Walks, children's events such as the Mid Summer Fairy Ball and Magic Lantern and much more. Each of these events are a part of the overall plan to raise the level of awareness of artists and their craft and to provide meaningful experiences that incorporate the arts into urban life. PAA supports all these programs with in-kind and cash contributions, fundraisers, membership and grants. The Paseo Arts District is home to over 70 artists, more than 20 galleries, 3 restaurants, a yoga studio, unique shops, graphic design studios and two architectural firms.
